During both the summer and the school year, TRWP offers Teacher Consultants (teachers who have completed the Invitational Summer Institute) the opportunity to participate in Advanced Institutes on a variety of topics.  These institutes provide CEU credit for licensed teachers in our network at no cost to them. The only stipulation is that teachers must have completed the Level One Summer Institute in order to qualify.  Advanced Institutes may last one or two weeks and may involve a variety of different topics, such as “Digital Literacies: Writing in the Web 2.0 World” and “Rhetoric for Teachers: Teaching Audience and Purpose.”  For more information on upcoming Advanced Institutes, email Will Banks on the site contact form.

Digital Is …

In Summer 2011, we invited TRWP teacher-consultants to explore with us the meaning of writing in a digital age.  Using a collaborative approach to teacher-inquiry, we examined issues, problems, and successes we’ve had teaching writing in digital environments, grounding our thinking in NWP’s new print and electronic resources, Because Digital Writing Matters and Digital Is.  While we wrestled with the big ideas about why we have to “think digital”, we also had plenty of time to play with new composing technologies and use this practical knowledge to design new curriculum and teaching strategies to meet the needs of a diversity of learners in our classrooms.
